The CHAMPS Children Foundation seeks to advance pediatric health care in China by fostering international collaboration in the areas of education, clinical practice, and research.

Our Goals:

  1. To develop comprehensive educational programs for pediatric subspecialty care in China in collaboration with Chinese academic institutions.
  2. To establish clinical training programs for advanced pediatric care in order to improve the quality of pediatric care provided in hospitals and clinics throughout China.
  3. To develop and support programs in clinical research that will address the key issues affecting the health of children in China.

More About Our Mission:

Advanced pediatric care includes preventive strategies, early detection, and more sophisticated treatments in children with major and complex medical conditions. The training of personnel in advanced pediatric care is an essential foundational element needed for improved pediatric subspecialty care in China. Moreover, trained personnel are a vital resource that can also support the provision of basic health care for children in public hospitals at the grassroots level. One of the stated target action plans for the recently announced Chinese healthcare reform is the promotion of basic public health services through screening for major diseases in children (Chen Z, Lancet 2009; 373:1322-1324). Among the two earliest targeted health conditions are childhood leukemia and congenital heart disease. To meet the additional need for personnel with training in advanced pediatric care in China, the opportunities for higher-level training must be significantly expanded.

The successful management of major childhood conditions, such as congenital heart disease, requires the coordination of care from multiple pediatric subspecialties in an interdisciplinary, collaborative, and integrated manner. In the United States and Europe, better survival and outcomes for children with congenital heart disease have been made possible over the past decades through the improved education and training of pediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, critical care specialists, nurses, perfusionists, and other medical professional specialists.

To help improve the overall health of children in China, theĀ CHAMPS Children FoundationĀ will support the development of pediatric scholars in advanced pediatric care through educational programs, clinical training programs, and clinical research training programs. The Foundation will seek to develop sustainable models of international collaboration by fostering long-term relationships between interested parties and organizations in China and abroad.
